River Sports Outfitters is an independent outdoor specialty retailer in Knoxville, Tennessee. Ed McAlister officially opened the shop over 25 years ago and has been providing local and online customers with the best in road / trail biking, road / trail running, camping, rock climbing, and kayaking / canoeing gear since then. By focusing on core brands such as Mountain Hardware, Montrail, Chaco, Keen, Patagonia, Gary Fisher, Asolo, Arc’teryx and Marmot, River Sports has carved a niche as the destination of choice for outdoor enthusiasts.
From day one, the RSO team’s focus has been on increasing awareness of, and interest in, the outdoors in the local community and, more recently, the online community. River Sports has created a new outdoors social networking site, www.OutdoorKnoxville.com, which is designed to bring outdoor enthusiasts together in one space to discuss product, trails, and events.
Additionally, River Sports offers a wide variety of events throughout the year, including several trail races, and XTerra event, and much more. As it’s contribution to the celebration of the Great Smoky Mountains 75th Birthday this year, River Sports announced an aggressive schedule of 75 events in the Smokies between March and November. Finally, the RSO team is proud of the state-of-the-art climbing facility at the Sutherland Avenue store. The climbing gym is a favorite spot for children’s birthday parties as well as a spot for experienced, gifted local climbers for “off season” practice sessions.
